“Ripper One, enemy VTOL’s are spotting for precision guided munitions. Come left to 180 and begin skysweep”

“Negative Overlord. Command is withdrawing under damage clause. Raiders have negotiated cessation of hostilities within the city limits.”

“…Copy Traffic, Ripper One.”

The towering columns of smoke from the burning warehouses begins to fade into the distance as the command loads up, beginning the retreat march to the Landing Zone. The recovery crews swarming over the immobiliezed Schiltrons, hooking up the tow cables to pull them onto the recovery flatbeds. The unit Laggered around the recovery operations, discussing the unit’s first mission.

All in all, the concensus amongst the command staff indicated that things went pretty well on the maiden voyage. The Schiltrons had been outfitted for maximum artillery throw weight, and the TAG equipped scout section had performed to perfection. The target buildings had been identified in short order and pummeled to oblivion through precision artillery strikes. Zero collateral damage. The enemy scout elements had proven a nasty suprise, racing around the flanks to make attack runs on the Artillery. Legs had accounted for the first hovertank kill, eliminating a Drillson Hovertank with a precice strike at the rear of the fast turning tank.

The attack on the artillery elements had drawn back practically the entire command. Leaving the Heavy Tank Element almost unsupported as it made it’s way up the main street. Only the quick thinking of the command staff in offering a cease fire had obviated any additional casualties.

One task now remained. Salvaging the damaged vehicles and making the long haul back to the Drop Zone…

Howling at the Moon
2nd Training Battle

As time elapsed on the simulated engagement, the Dragoon referees enabled the security interlocks on all remaining weaponry. The orders being relayed for all units to return to the marshaling area for debriefing and the official findings of the Wargame Observers that would critique the exercise.

Filing into the dusty prefabricated structure at the edge of the training area, dwarfed by the towering ranks of Battlemechs parked laggered around the debriefing room. Seated lecture hall style, the ranking officers, Colonels in the Dragoons, begin covering the meeting engagement from start to finish. Of note, the movement of the lighter scout elements is questioned charging directly against the heaviest Dragoon elements. The Owens survived it’s encounter to attempt a later end run, but suffered grievous damage, taking it’s much needed TAG out of the fight. The Dragoon element commanders are questioned for their choices in going after the mainly annoying VTOL support. Noting that even with the loss of one of the VTOLS, the Helos managed to keep a combined one hundred and twenty five tons of enemy fire off of the main battle line for at least forty seconds. Helping shift the tide of battle towards the Altair Legion’s favor.

The noted use of artillery was praised for helping control the approaches to the vehicular position and the gutsy move to deploy in the line of battle and attempt direct engagement with the Arrow IV’s was something that the wargame controllers had been debating wether or to allow. However they were able to program appropriate values for direct fire behavior into the battle computer on the fly, so allowed it for the scenario. The Artillery is credited with one partial kill, however it is noted that greater communication is required in the future to avoid the pitfalls of blue-on-blue fire. All in all, the Dragoons announce the engagement a Marginal Victory for the Altair Legion. This news will really improve the unit’s stock in the Hiring Hall in Harlech. True to Form, Captain Martha Radick comes to shake your commander’s hand.

“Good work out there today. You proved I have alot more work to do with this company before taking them out in the field, but that does nothing to minimize your accomplishment. I’d drop with you and your boys and girls anytime. If you’re interested, I can put you into contact with contract command. The Dragoons are always looking for solid performers to handle sub-contracts.”
